Mobility Training

What Is Mobility Training?

Mobility training blends flexibility, joint range of motion, stability, and coordination—so you’re not only able to move further, but also move well. It’s especially helpful if you feel “tight” even when you stretch, if certain movements feel restricted, or if you keep getting the same aches and flare-ups.

At Farmington Physical Therapy, mobility training is a guided, progressive program that improves how your joints and muscles work together. We use controlled movement drills, stability work, and functional patterns that translate to real-life tasks.

Mobility training can help you:

  • Improve joint range of motion with better control
  • Reduce stiffness and “stuck” feeling in common problem areas
  • Move with less compensation and strain
  • Improve posture, alignment, and movement mechanics
  • Increase balance, coordination, and body awareness
  • Improve squat/hinge/reach mechanics for daily life, work, and sport
  • Build resilience to prevent recurring pain and injuries

Conditions Mobility Training Helps Treat

Many pain patterns are linked to poor mobility combined with poor control—your body compensates, and tissues get overloaded. Mobility training addresses these root movement limitations.

Mobility training may help with:

  • Neck and upper back stiffness
  • Low back pain related to movement limitations
  • Hip tightness and restricted rotation
  • Shoulder stiffness and poor overhead mechanics
  • Knee and ankle mobility limitations
  • Tendon irritation influenced by poor mechanics
  • Arthritis-related stiffness and limited motion
  • Post-surgical movement restrictions (as appropriate for your stage)
  • Sports-related mobility restrictions affecting performance

What to Expect

Mobility training at Farmington Physical Therapy is structured and measurable. We focus on improving the movements that matter to you—then we progress them so your body can handle real life without flare-ups.

1

A Thorough Evaluation

We assess how you move—not just where it hurts. Your therapist may check joint mobility, flexibility, strength, stability, balance, coordination, and the movement patterns most relevant to your goals (squat, hinge, step, reach, rotate, overhead mechanics).
2

A Personalized Mobility Plan

Your program is customized to your limitations and goals. It may include:

  • Mobility drills for stiff joints
  • Controlled stretching (active and dynamic when appropriate)
  • Stability work to “own” new range of motion
  • Breathing and positioning strategies to reduce guarding
  • Technique coaching for better movement efficiency
3

Guided Training Sessions

You’ll work through your program in a coached environment where we can adjust technique, progress difficulty, and ensure your mobility improvements are safe and lasting.
4

Progression Toward Real-Life Movement

As you improve, we integrate mobility into functional tasks—lifting, reaching, walking, climbing stairs, job demands, and sport-specific movement—so it carries over outside the clinic.
5

A Simple Home Routine

You’ll leave with a clear routine to maintain gains between visits. The goal is consistency and long-term change—not a complicated list you won’t use.
At Farmington Physical Therapy, your health is personal. Our team is here to help you move with confidence, recover with purpose, and live life to the fullest.

We begin with a comprehensive evaluation, develop a personalized plan, and walk with you every step of the way toward recovery.
